So, the toast experiment was a dismal failure. The smell of toast, it seems, is not infectious in all situations.

I remain undaunted however and will keep trying, with a new policy of giving away the first piece of toast each week to whoever is quick enough to get to the toaster as it pops out. A new spectator sport?

Of course last week it may have been the promise of microwave cake in a cup that deterred the toast eaters. This is a new activity to me and if you've never tried it you should really give it a go- it's brilliant! If attempting this with a dozen or so frenzied youths my advice is to be prepared in Blue Peter fashion with one you made earlier.

Theoretically, you can conduct all of this wizardry in a mug but my research suggested that would mean cake tsunami, too much egg, too much cake, microwave meltdown, tears, fighting etc etc.

My solution, a large bowl of prepared chocolate cake mix, squirty cream, hundreds and thousands, bottle of oozy chocolate sauce, large paper cups and plastic spoons. My tip, always make it a chocolate cake mix, a vicky sponge will just look anaemic, and no one wants or needs that do they?

The excellent part about this is the magic that turns half a cup (always half- remember, cake tsunami) of cake mix into a perfect mini chocolate cake after 60 seconds in an 800 watt microwave. Hot enough to melt squirty cream and choccie sauce, warm enough to eat.

We watched in awe at what seemed like speeded up, time lapse photography when the mound of cake bubbled up out of the top of the paper cup. There was only a brief moment of tension when someone tucked into raw cake mix, but we lunged into action and quickly presented him with instant chocolate pud instead- tears of gratitude would be an understatement, such was the drama.

This week at Youth Club (Wednesday 23rd March, 7.00pm) we reach the end of our first chapter, and a very happy one it has been too. It will be our last session at the Baptist Chapel before moving to the Public Hall after Easter.

There will be much thanking of the Baptist Chapel folks going on, especially Alan and Judi Paterson who came forward and offered Youth Club a home from the outset. Without their offer of help we would not have had a Youth Club in the village since last July, and may not have had one yet.

For our last session at the Chapel we will be having a good old Easter shindig. Lots of, usually fiercely competitive, musical chairs and statues plus a few other team games designed to get the crowd going. Oh, and of course, some Easter egg prizes and chip butties.

After the Easter hols our first session will be Wednesday 13th April at Audlem Public Hall.

Please note that our new start time will be 7.15pm but we will still be finishing at 9.00pm as usual. If anyone has any questions about the move or the new times do get in touch with Kate on 07789 915940.
