The April speaker, Rev. Michael Burgess, kept the audience highly amused with his tales of nuptial faux pas and weddings in general. Apparently the average cost of a wedding now is £22,000 and the most amazing one was in India which cost £30 million and only lasted a week.

He told of the mother who constantly interrupted her son's wedding with abuse because she did not like the bride and the Yorkshire father who made his daughter's wedding cake solely from pork pies – he was a butcher. The most unusual hymns are often chosen, two of them being 'Through the night of doubt and sorrow' and 'Before you go in the morning, tell me your name. oh! tell me your name'.

The May meeting dealt with the W.I. resolution which this year urged the Government to investigate the major problem of the falling population of pollinating honey bees due to disease. This is now so dire that it is estimated that within four years crops will be devastated and an immense food shortage will follow.

The secretary of the North Shropshire bee keepers, Jo Schup, told of the difficulties they have trying to control this outbreak. It is affecting English and American bees and at the moment Australia and New Zealand are reasonably clear but she recommends honey eaters to buy British even though it is more expensive rather the blended honeys from China.
The Government has announced that they will spend £10 million on this very important investigation.

Pat Smith presented the birthday flowers and the next meeting will be on June 4th and new members and visitors will be very welcome.
