The autumn meetings of Audlem W.I. have had a variety of speakers starting in September when Carole Tallon Bailey told of the life and times of Beatrix Potter.
In October Rina Tillinger compared living in England since her marriage 23 years ago with life in the U.S.A. She regards our way of eating rather odd, our accents – particularly cockney rhyming slang – totally confusing but the huge sewerage pipes in our plumbing far better than the small diameter ones back in her homeland.
The November meeting was the A.G.M. when the new committee was selected. This stays the same with Christine Salisbury as President, Anne Poole as secretary and Lyn Nicholls as treasurer but with the addition of one new member, Kath Disley.
The Turkey and Tinsel five-day holiday to Whitby was finalised and a party of thirteen, including five husbands, are leaving on 30th November.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the first evacuees, four members performed a short humorous sketch about two pathetic little girls billeted with a rather posh lady. As there were no seven year old children available to play the parts of the girls, they were played by two, small in stature, older ladies. One of them was eight-two.
The entertainment finished with a twenty-question quiz pertaining to that era which was won by Christine Plume's team. Pat Smith presented the birthday flowers and the next meeting will be on December 3rd when new members and visitors will be welcome
