Audlem WI met on Thursday 4th January at the Methodist Church Hall. The President gave a warm welcome to everyone and wished them a Happy New Year. Although the meeting was soon after the Christmas break, attendance was good.
This month members are looking forward to the Annual Lunch at The Lord Combermere on 18th January and also a trip to see the Nutcracker on 20th January at The New Vic Theatre.
The Speaker for the afternoon was Lisa Collas on Recycling. She gave a most interesting and informative talk on recycling and what happens to our waste once collected. Cheshire East is in the top 10 when it comes to recycling and even waste in the black bin is recycled – nothing goes into landfill. She went through various items asking which bin we would use and tips on how to store food to avoid waste. The whole theme was 'life without plastic' which is the biggest threat to the environment. Lisa was thanked by Joy Taylor.
During the tea break members were able to chat to Lisa and pick up some very useful leaflets on recycling and storing food etc.
The Speaker Secretary is busy planning this year's programme, which will be printed and handed out at the April meeting.
The next meeting is on Thursday 1st February at 2 pm. The Speaker is Dr. Karen Castle 'How I ended up in Prison'. All visitors are most welcome. Please contact me Doreen Hubbard on 01270811821 or the President Brenda Heathcock on 01270 if you would like more information.
We look forward to another enjoyable year, meeting old and new friends.
Doreen Hubbard
Secretary to Audlem WI
