A big thank you to all the AoL readers who responded to the request for information about the Audlem Walks Leaflet.
The facts appear to be as follows (although some of the detail could easily be wrong).

2006

Six walks were defined on AoL, mainly by Bob Cartwright

  • Highfields Circuit
  • The Canal and Hankelow Mill
  • The Canal and Bagley Lane
  • Moss Hall and the Canal
  • Audlem Vale
  • South Cheshire Way and Hankelow

...and details published for comment.

2009 – First edition of leaflets

See AoL story here.

This edition included

  • Maps showing the routes of the six walks chosen produced by Chris Elliott.
  • Cover montage of photographs by Phil Baker, Simon Cotter, Ken Maple and Mike Mason.
  • Design by Delmar Press of Nantwich who also printed the leaflets.
  • Funding by the Countryside Access unit of Cheshire County Council

Several hundred of this edition were printed and distributed through village shops etc.

There are still a few of this edition around.

2018/19 – new edition

A second edition was printed by Joe the Printer, using the same copy and photos as the first, but with the logos of the funders (Overwater Marina and The Lord Combermere) superimposed.

Computer files

We have traced Word versions of the descriptions of the walks, but the maps can probably only be recreated from the actual copy (which is quite possible).

The questions

  • Is there still demand for the leaflet?
  • Are there still any stocks of the latest version?
  • Is a new version needed, i.e. does the content need altering?
  • Should a new version include walks through the Turnpike Field?
  • Who might fund a reprint, new edition or not, (possibly £100 to £150)?

And most importantly, is there somebody who is prepared to "run" with the project and make it happen?

The village organisations perhaps best placed to benefit and/or contribute are

  • Tourist and Traders Group
  • ADAPT
  • Audlem Ramblers (ARS)
  • Audlem Parish Council

Any (polite) suggestions welcome.
