A reminder that Audlem Voices will be performing John Stainer's 'The Crucifixion' and other choral pieces from the Great Oratorios of Mendelssohn and Mozart at 7.30pm this Saturday, 5th April 2014, at St James's Church, Audlem.

For those unable to make this date, we have scheduled a second performance at 7.30pm on Saturday 12th April 2014 at Wistaston Church Hall. Wistaston.

For those of you who have attended the choir's previous musical evenings, this will be another 'not to be missed' event with the choir once again stretching its exceptional vocal abilities under the resolute guidance of their Musical Director Jenny Collis-Smith.

Jenny will be playing the organ for our first performance in St James Church, Richard Lythall will be the accompanist at Wistaston, and we are delighted to welcome back our soloists Kevin Whitfield (Bass) and Philip Cartwright (Tenor) who will be performing on both dates.

We feel highly privileged to have attained the services of Paul Collis-Smith as our conductor for our first performance in Audlem. Paul is not only Jenny's son, but is the renowned Director of Music of one of the finest professional brass bands in the country based at RAF St Athan. What a musical coup, not to be missed!

John Stainer's Crucifixion is amongst the most popular of all English choral works and vividly portrays the events of the Passion of Christ. Scored for tenor and bass soloists, and organ and mixed choir, the piece combines recitatives, solos, and masterful choruses that range from the graphic discordant singing of 'Crucify Him' to the ethereally beautiful meditation at the work's centrepiece 'God so loved the world'.

Audience participation will be encouraged, so please bring your tickets with you, as we will be exchanging them for an informative hand out, with detailed résumés on both our guest conductors, soloists and just a few clues as to where your dulcet tones can be heard!

Tickets for both performances will be £7.50 each to include refreshments and are available from Williams Newsagents and Audlem Post Office.
