The extensive renovation work on Audlem's public toilets on the Cheshire Street car park is virtually complete.

One detail is, however, still outstanding. Ownership of the toilets is transferring from Cheshire East Borough Council, who closed them down in April this year, to Audlem Parish Council, who have supervised their renovation and will operate them in the future.

It appears that completion of the transfer by Cheshire East is still awaited meaning insurance complications for the Parish Council who are anxious to have the toilets fully operational as soon as possible.

Before the refurbishment, only a small part of the building was actually used. The ladies toilet also incorporated an automatic flushing system that was unpopular and prone to malfunctions.

Now, the building has been completely overhauled by Audlem contractor CMS Ltd with conventional whiteware and cubicles. The outside has been brightened up too with designs by local artist Jo Halden featuring familiar Audlem scenes.

More news as soon as we have confirmation that the transfer of ownership is complete and the toilets can then be fully open to the public.
