Following reservations expressed about the quality of local road repairs by local campaigner Peter Oxley – see news stories and Chatbox comments on the website last week – AudlemOnline has received the following message from Cheshire East with a copy of their response:

Good morning Mr Oxley
Thank you for your response and your observations. It is always good to receive feedback to enable us to review what we do, how we do it and how we communicate.

The repairs that are facilitated on our road network are done so following industry standards and on this occasion in the Audlem area we used a mix of high volume jet patching machines and traditional hand repair gangs.

All of the methods used comply with industry standards, using experienced and qualified staff and are guaranteed. Should there be any failure of a repair then this will be redone at no additional cost to Cheshire East Council.

With regards to your comments about the quality of work, the workmanship, bad practice etc., I would urge anyone with evidence of such bad practices etc. to let me know so I can address them on a case by case basis, which I will happily do.

I will feed your observations to the Asset Management Team who assess all of the borough's roads through detailed surveys, information from Highway Inspectors, other highways staff and complaints from the parishes/public etc. This information feeds in to an assessment criteria which will identify work on an asset need rather than a perceived need. This intelligence led approach has to be followed to ensure additional funding from the DfT is received.
