Jeanette Shenton is leading this walk on the 14th December around Blakemere, Whitegate and Pettypool Wood. Meet Audlem car Park 8.30 am
This is a pleasant 8.1 mile walk starting and finishing at Blakemere Craft Centre Post code, CW8 2EB.
Blakemere Craft Centre is on the A556 Chester to Northwich road and there are toilets and on-site parking.
The craft centre is based upon the stables of the old house and has a wide range of crafts on offer, as well as courses and entertainments plus a bird of prey aviary, day nursery, playbarn and garden
centre.
This almost level walk wanders through woods and by lakes in easily accessible countryside. There are 3 short fairly steep climbs on the walk and the need to cross 6 stiles.
When I reccied the walk there were no livestock in fields, only one field of horses, so dog friendly.
Paths were generally good, obviously muddy but not excessively so.
There is a christmas event on at the centre (Breakfast with santa and christmas walk through the woods) on the 14th December so they expect the centre to be busy on that day.
I have spoken to them and agreed that we will park in the bottom car park near to the touring site, and arrive as soon after 9am as possible. Keeping the number of cars to a minimum.
I therefore suggest an 8.30am departure from Audlem Car Park.

Additional Information

Blakemere Hall was built in 1878 and demolished in 1950, the stables forming the core of the craft centre. In its heyday King Edward VII was a frequent visitor, while by contrast, the
hall housed German prisoners of war in WWII and then Polish refugees.
The old railway line carried salt for almost 100 years to Cuddington, where it joined the Manchester line. It also carried passengers, who sometimes had to wait while goods were picked
up or wagons shunted. The only station was at Whitegate, the line closing in 1966.
NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various
lengths of walk.
Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately
equipped.
Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
