The next Audlem Ramblers walk is on Saturday 13th November, meeting in Audlem Public Hall Car Park at 8 am. From Craven Arms including Wenlock Edge, it will be led by Steve Elliott; see his description of the walk below; note the reminder to bring walking poles.

Callow Hill, Flounders Folly and Wenlock Edge from Craven Arms – 17km (10.5ml) and 345m (1130ft) height gain. A reasonably gentle 3 booter

8am departure from Audlem Car Park.

We start from the free car park in Craven Arms – Corvedale Rd, SY7 9NE -- turn left in the middle of the town and almost immediately left before the pedestrian lights. There are toilets there.

The paths are generally good, although there are muddy and slippery sections – a stick could be quite useful! We do use some small lanes as well, but they seemed very quiet.

We head E out of the town and then turn N towards Halford and then across fields toward Callow Hill. A couple of unfriendly stiles and sheep (the sheep are fine). Once we enter the woods, the path rises pretty sharply up to Callow Hill, the highest point in this area. and Flounders Folly – owned for a while by Julie Christie who had a house nearby – see  https://www.floundersfolly.org.uk
Good spot for coffee, and if the weather is kind to us it's even possible to see Cader Idris!

We then descend through the woods, and out onto another quiet lane and N to Westhope. There is good lunch spot at the village hall with some benches and walls to sit on. We're about 9+km into the walk at this point.

We then head uphill slightly towards Wenlock Edge and then meander along the top through woodland. Fairly easy descent, but beware brambles across the path – a couple of us ought to take some secateurs!!

Another easy path through woodland, across some fields via a couple of more stiles and then down a quiet lane, through Halford and back to the car park.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
