The four judges of the regional stage of the Village of the Year competition were treated to a great morning in Audlem today. After a presentation by twelve speakers in the Methodist Church's Seville Room, they travelled in great style to the Public Hall (The website link that was here no longer works) in Sid Seabridge's coach and horses with schoolchildren and residents waving as they passed.

In the Public Hall a range of village societies, clubs, organisations and musicians put on a varied and superb exhibition showing just a sample of what goes on in Audlem. All ages were there ranging upwards from the Audlem Saints under 8's football team.

As well as the regional judging, awards were made by the Cheshire Community Council, DEFRA and Calor Gas, the competition's sponsors, to five Cheshire villages. Audlem won 'Cheshire Village of the Year', 'Most Vibrant Village' and the award for 'Building Community Life'. It was Audlem's success in the Cheshire competition that led to it competing in the regional stage. If successful in this round, where it competes with 9 other North West and North of England villages, it will go through to the national final.

Richard Furber, chairman of Audlem Parish Council, spoke after the awards presentation and thanked the many people and groups who had put on such a great show.
