Audlem on his mind!

It's good to see that the article in this week's Chronicle about MP Stephen O'Brien's new ministerial position at the Department for International Development has a striking headline – From Audlem to Africa.

The piece says that on any given day of the week Mr O'Brien could be either listening to concerned residents in Audlem, Bradfield or Worleston, or visiting villages in Africa to see how British Aid money is being spent.

Some may think Audlem made the headline purely because of its capital 'A'. Others, and hopefully Stephen O'Brien himself, might believe it's down to the particularly strong pressure Audlem exerts on him to protect local interests.

That could well be the case today with the MP chairing a meeting to discuss the way forward with the Age Concern day care issue which has featured regularly on Audlem Online. Audlem will be represented at that constituency-wide meeting.

We hope after the meeting to report further progress on retaining this vital service for older local residents.

If, by the way, Stephen O'Brien visits the Zambian village in our photo on his travels, he may be surprised to find another Audlem – Africa link. The Zambian boys pictured are wearing Audlem Saints shirts – to read why, see the story by David Parry on Wednesday.
