Audlem resident Andrew Henderson was featured on the BBC national news last night as part of a lengthy story about the challenges of Brexit to the dairy industry. Although the two cows in the background seemed determined to steal the show, what Andrew and the rest of the report had to say was fascinating.

The story detailed how new markets were being created and mentioned exports of fresh milk to Qatar in the Middle East and to China. The milk in question was Nemi milk, regularly featured on AudlemOnline as the locally founded business has grown under Andrew's leadership.

The reporter even said that the Chinese prefer dealing just with the UK – presumably after working with suppliers like Andrew and Nemi – rather than having to deal with the whole of Europe.

The story then went on to feature a Cheshire dairy farm run by the Lomas family who are suppliers to NEMi.

In August, we carried this story about NEMi and it's success in the Middle East:

Nemi Dairy Export Success

Nemi Dairy located in Audlem is one of a select few British brands that are exporting fresh British milk to the Middle East.
The family run business now has its products on the shelves of six hypermarkets.

The firm was approached by Y International – the UK export arm of Lulu Group International which owns a chain of hypermarkets throughout the Middle East.

The process of shipping fresh milk to the Middle East starts at the dairy where the milk is pasteurised. It is then transported in chilled vehicles to a temperature controlled warehouse in Birmingham. Each bottle is then re packaged with an Arabic label and palletised using special insulating material. It arrives at the airport on chilled vehicles and is air freighted directly into the region's central warehouse.

Throughout its journey, the milk is temperature checked constantly and never goes above 5°C. Within days it is on the shelves ready for consumers to buy.

Andrew Henderson, managing director, said: "It is incredible to think that our farmers are milking their cows and then days later that milk in on the shelves in the Middle East.

"We are delighted to work with Y International and Lulu Group they are showing a tremendous amount of support to us and our industry and we hope this will transpire into a long standing relationship."
