Audlem History Society

The first talk of 2024 for Audlem History Society is to be held at the usual venue of the Scout and Guide Hall on Thursday 18th January, at 7.30pm.

The speaker will be Les Pickford, whose talk is entitled "Illustrating History".

Les was formerly Head of Art at Shavington High School, and since retirement has been a member of the Nantwich Museum Research group, and is now "artist in residence" at the Museum. Les provides illustrations for the various Museum exhibitions in the summer, and also for the Civil War display.

Les will talk about illustrations used for a variety of purposes, some of which are misleading or just plain "wrong", and explain how persuasive illustrations can be and how they can colour our perception of history.

All are welcome to attend, including visitors (who are asked to pay £4 on the door please), and there will be a chance to ask questions after the talk, plus refreshments at the end.

We hope you will join us on the evening.
