Sunday 4th August.

Off I drive to The Goodwill Hall at Faddiley for a game versus Faddiley F C. Top rated team of the Premier division so a big, big hurdle for us.

Team decimated by holidays and injuries as we embark on yet another pre-season game. Players drift in gradually but some declared men missing for one reason or another. Referee Jem Cornes here and I pay over £40 for our share of his fees and pitch costs.

Off we go at 1104.

And we step up to the plate and are soon in command of all play. Mesmerising the opposition with our direct play and superb passing man to man. They are like rabbits caught in the glare of our headlights!! Outplaying all the game as we dominate. Many chances of goals but it lasts until the 89th minute -- and we score. A victory!! BUT Enough of Fake news as Trump would say.

The Facts.

'We kick off at 1104.

1106 0-1 as they take the lead.

1135 0-2 As ref awards a penalty to FFC after our goalie pulls down a player.Superb play by our opponents as ball is passed man to man and mostly on the deck. A chance for us as a great ball upfield is met by ever running Danny Mahoney who crosses and Kevin Beresford heads for goal -- but referee stops it. Our best chance so far of' a goal.

1140 They score – 0-3

1148 0-4

HALF TIME

Off we go after Kev Mort our manager changes our formation to a defensive 4-5-1

1205 0-4

We are being filleted.( As I sit here, writing my notes, I realise that I am using a strange to me pen. One bearing the name "Chepstow- racing events". How on earth that ended up in my football box. Makes a good story- The Adventures of a Pen )Musing as I watch FFC playing so well man to man and I dream that we will rise to their standards.

1225 0-6

1240 0-7.

Game over. Nothing learnt. Taken apart by a much better team.

We begin the season proper on the 18th. Away to Broadhurst F C in Northwich.
