The new season begins Today, Wednesday 24th,

We meet as a team for the opening game of the 2016/17 season. – A midweek game – the first of two – in order for all planned fixtures to be held in good time for the summer recess. This in itself present many worries in trying to get working men to the pitch in time for a kick- off at 1830 – and with the prospect of poor light around 2030 ever in our minds We have struggled to pin down players with their family commitments, school holidays etc, but I feel sure we will be presenting a full squad for the game against Faddiley F C.

Referee is Jem Cornes and it is my fervent hope that he will be both fair and firm. The angle of respect as trumpeted by the big fellows in the FA leagues, is also true of us lesser Sunday players, and Referees will brook no nonsense or foul language.

We take to the field on what is acknowledged as the worst on in all of Cheshire. North, South, East and West.

As I have reported, Cheshire East have said just so and have given an undertaking to put it right – but not until the end of this new season. Meanwhile we face a charge of close to £500 to play on our own village field. And we have to find this cash, as well as referee fees, changing room fees, kit, balls, medical bag etc from our own efforts – no help coming at all from our own Parish Council-who have actually stated publicly how much they want to aid the fine community we volunteers have built here in Audlem.

How I wish it was as Hankelow and Buerton. Who own their own community outdoor spaces. If only we had acted to take over the field as was voted for in 2014!!

And the words spoken as to why we do not have more Audlem men in the team. It is nigh on impossible for young families to at present buy a home here, try as they might. So they move to Nantwich and Crewe. And still are keen to drive to play here for Audlem F C. New homes planned may indeed give a better chance to the young. We shall see.

We hope we will do well this season. We have been promised match balls by a very kind resident and such actions give me much heart.Wish us luck please and we hope you will turn out to see how we fair.
