Gin. Now there's a good clean drink. And have you noticed how fast we have exploded in choice from the days of just Gordon's, Seagrams and Sapphire brands. Behind the bar now is an array of choice so wide and for myself, I have received at-least six different brands of gin for Christmas . All tasting very good, with perhaps the Edinburgh Gin topping the list for myself. The last gift was as photographed here. A quite unique brand and it tastes very well.
To our game now. Home for the second time this year . And we now are just over 40 days to the date we leave the EU . No comment, just a fact
This day we play Sandbach again and entertain them here in our luxurious new facilities. And invite them back to chips and nuggets at the Bridge Inn.
Referee is Mick Costello. An old friend who does not waste energy.
We play in our blue/ white strip with Sandbach in their red/ black strip . Our last game with them resulted in a sore of 2-2 after we fluffed a penalty .
Now for a bit of revenge .
Car park full. Lots of walkers out for this mild day and the bells of the church ringing out as worshippers are invited to the morning service .
We have a turn out of 15 players so 4 subs and I remind you that we now play on the basis of roll on roll off subs, giving the chance to get all players a good kick.
Referee Mick gets us underway as we kick off -- kicking into the tennis court end goal.
All off fast and furious as their pent up energy gets going. No evidence of any hangovers .
Play a bit even but a few corners either way is evidence of the desire .
1102.
1st corner goes to us . As we press hard . Well in charge in these opening minutes .
1104 and Sandbach win a free kick. My heart gives a jump for so often are we undone by set pieces .
1108. Great pass by Kev Beresford is met on the run by Ben Spruce who fires in for a lovely opening goal. New purple boots on Kev's feet serving him well . Boots nowadays are so soft and light as compared to the very stiff ones of my youth .
1-0
1110 .
Defence and Connor Baxter stops a certain goal!
Connor then pulls of another great save. Playing well under pressure . Sun peeps out from behind grey clouds . A welcome sight .
Spectacular long shot by Sandbach goes wide thankfully. Connor very alert to the threat.
Free kick to us and Kev Beresford takes it but he bends it left of the goal. A chance missed.
1118
Our defence split wide open and they score their first goal
1-1
Game even and language white clean
1127
Kev B running at their goal but his header goes wide. A chance mussed . A good chance
1125 .
And we give away a penalty .
Up steps their Dave Furber, number 16 and he scores
1-2
#Half Time whistle
I nip down to the Bridge Inn to see if it is ok for us to come there after the game. Kieran confirms ok . Chip butties and chicken nuggets .
Referee calls me to one side to warn me that if Kev Rodgers fouls again it will be a red card. A red mist descends on KR at times and he lashes out .
James Bebbington off as Connor McGowan comes on .
We begin to dominate this half.
3 corners in a row as we press hard. Seeking that equaliser Joe Benson on. Immediately takes down one of their players very hard .
Kev Rodgers off. Jake Edge on .
Kev Mort with all his guile and experience comes on and we begin to exert more telling pressure .
1225
Then , Connor caught out of position and their number 16 rounds him to score the easiest goal of his season. A bad bloomer.
1-3
Blow me down -- after all the pressure from us. And Kev Mort using his guile ! So many chances we have had ..
but no gain won.
A goodly lot of spectators, the most we have had for a long time. Nice to see this .
1232
A feed from Andrew Betteley is met by Kev Beresford and he scores
2-3
Second half running out of time as we are awarded a soft penalty.
Kev Beresford steps up and puts it away .
3-3
Could and should have been a victory. Sandbach all about Furber, their number 16 who scored all their goals .
Pay the referee his fee, calling the results to David Farral of the executive and get off to the Bridge to check all ok. Plates look like the vultures have been at it, and sadly no opponents join us .
Next game is at home, A cup tie. Versus Brighton Belle of Winsford. A tough team
