The decision by Audlem Parish Council and local volunteers to form a Trust to take over the Day Care service at Thornton House was hailed as an example of the Big Society on BBC Radio Stoke yesterday.

You can listen to the interview on the BBC iPlayer – it was broadcast towards the end of Pete Morgan's breakfast show yesterday, 13th January. Or if you prefer to read the BBC's story, click on the link below the photo.

A BBC reporter, Max Kahn, visited the Day Care on Tuesday and interviewed Roger Millns of ADCA, Audlem District Community Action, and Mike Crawshaw of Cheshire East, who has been helpful in transferring funding for next year from Age UK to Audlem.

Mike Crawshaw said that running the service locally would save around a third of the previous costs. Roger Millns explained that this was possible because the money would no longer be funding head office salaries at Age UK. He added that there was a wealth of local skills to take the provision forward.

Volunteer Susan Ford was interviewed as were Day Care users Tom and Bernice who stressed how important the service was to them. Ralph Warburton was on hand too and spoke about the Big Society.

Roger Millns added that the the Trust would look at expanding the current provision with, for example, a Tea Club, a possibility.
