All four of Audlem's curlers were in action last weekend playing in two teams entered in the 37th Welsh International Bonspiel held at Greenacres Curling Rink near Glasgow.

Both teams qualified for the final stages of the tournament, but just missed out on top honours in their respective finals, being runners up in each case. The competition culminated in three finals involving the top six teams from the qualifying rounds.

Lesley and Martin Gregory are pictured in the top photo (second from right and far right) receiving runners up prizes for the second level final, with team mates John Sharp (skip) and Kirsty Balfour.

Di and Andy Hannah appear in the lower picture (second and third from right) with Grant Farquharson (skip) and Eileen McNulty receiving the equivalent prizes for the third level final.

The Audlem players, who are all previous overall winners of the event, were never out of the top three in their section of eight during the qualifying stages and each of their teams notched up convincing wins in their journey to the finals.

Sunday morning saw an Audlem derby game with the two couples playing one another over 250 miles from their homes which are a quarter of a mile apart! The Gregorys took the honours setting them up for the higher level final.

Overall winner of the event was the team skipped by Welsh Curling's President, Adrian Meikle, who triumphed in a nail-biting final against Ken Horton's Scottish team, which went down to the last stone of an extra end to decide the winner.

Adrian features in both photos presenting the prizes.

Great fun was had by all, and if you fancy having a go at this fantastic sport, the Welsh Curling Association hold 'come and try' sessions on many Monday evenings at Deeside Leisure Centre, Queensferry, less than an hour's drive from Audlem.
