The Audlem Carnival has its roots way back in 1812, when farmers and their wives and families gathered in the village centre by the Butter Market, to offer many of the fruits of their harvest – Butter, cheeses, piglets, chickens, apples, jam, chutney, and much more.
Casks of ale were much in evidence as were ciders, home brewed wines and hooch. Lots of merrymaking and the election of a fool! Much rustling in the bushes was heard. And the fruits of the celebrations much in evidence in the following June/July....
Nowadays things are a tad less frenetic, as the norms of today's society must be observed. We will have lots of stalls giving the chance for folks to offer their wares.
This year the Carnival will take place on Monday 29th May and will feature:
