The Audlem Aid to Cancer Research team has been nominated for a 'Your Champions' award in the 'Trinity Mirror Cheshire' awards run by the Chronicle Group of newspapers in conjunction with Scottish Power. The awards are designed to allow Chronicle readers find the real stars of South Cheshire.

This week's Chronicle carried a detailed story on the Audlem Aid to Cancer Research team with a picture of members Christine Plume, Ken Jenkins, Ann Bowles, Gwyneth Stirland and Beryl Gribbin. The article described how , for a small village like Audlem, a staggering amount of cash, £16,000 in the past year, is raised for Cancer Research UK. Chairman Ann Bowles said: "Audlem Aid to Cancer Research has been in existence for some 30 years and it is amazing how the fund raising total keeps going up every year. It is really thanks to the support of our 28 volunteers who man the shop on a rota basis, a core group of committee members and the wonderful backing we get from the village."

Individual events usually generate about £1,000. The last, an Open Garden event at the home of the group's secretary Christine Plume, made £1,300.

The heroes and heroines in the Chronicle awards will be honoured at a glittering ceremony at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel on 16th November.
