Aston & District W.I. October 2019 Report

On Friday 4th October, Aston and District W.I. members were given a warm welcome by our President Jenny Bourne to the afternoon meeting.
Since our previous meeting, Jenny and Pamela attended the PAL Meeting on Modern Day Slavery and reported back to members about how serious a problem it is in this country and around the world and what we can do to help.
The Autumn Malbank Group meeting is to be held at Worleston on Wednesday 16th October when the speaker will be ex Shropshire Fireman Malcolm Castle.

Our Luncheon Club will meet at the Red Lion, Wybunbury on Tuesday 8th October at 12.00 noon for 12.30pm.

Our speaker for the afternoon was Mrs Pat Stalker who took "A Look at Life". She gave us a very entertaining and hilarious talk starting with her childhood and early school years in Yorkshire. She took us back to days when there were no health and safety concerns and reminded us that we all managed to survive!
She later trained to be a teacher and recalled many hilarious stories from her days in the classroom, saying that teaching had change over the years. She ended her talk by saying that, whilst we were very lucky to have the NHS to look after us, there was no doubt that it had its problems. But hospitals like Christies gave wonderful treatments to everyone which was very positive and enlightening. All in all our members thoroughly enjoyed her talk.

Judy Townsend gave the vote of thanks.
Our competition this month was for an Animal Ornament and was won by Mrs Joan Sweeney.
We then all enjoyed our Tea and Cake.
Next month's meeting at 2pm in the afternoon of 1st November and our speaker will be Mrs Amanda Glennon, "The Upsides of Down".
Visitors and New Members are always welcome, more details can be found on our website – www.astonanddistrictwi.org.uk
