Aston & District W.I. August 2019 Report

On Friday 2nd August, Aston and District W.I. members had a wonderful Social Evening. Our President quickly dealt with all the business matters and thanked all the ladies who helped with the three entries in the Nantwich Show gaining a second in one section.

Our Skittles and Carvery Evening at the Bickerton Poacher was a splendid night. Jill Royal and Norman Bourne were the winners.
This month the Luncheon Club are meeting 6th August at the Lord Combermere in Audlem at 12.00 noon for 12.30 pm.
The Walking Group are meeting on 7th August at the Stapeley Tea Rooms at 10.30, having lunch there on their return.

Our President then introduced our speaker for the evening, Fiona Nesbit.
Fiona currently has an exhibition of her work at the Audlem Mill showing her skills as a textile artist. She began with a short talk and showed beautiful examples of her varying weaving skills before she went on to show us the many different looms.

A practical session of weaving followed with members busily enjoying weaving on two sticks and producing headbands, bracelets, necklaces and the beginnings of cushions. Fiona managed to keep everyone on track and gave support where needed. The vote of thanks was given by Sue Thomas.
A light supper provided by the committee was enjoyed by one and all. Raffle prizes were presented and the competition of an unfinished craft was won by Glenys Inight.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and many people were going home with a newly found skill and bundles of weaving sticks!

Our meeting next month will be held on Friday September 6th at 2.00pm in the afternoon and it will be a talk by Mrs Jean Finney on Witches and Superstitions and the competition is a Family Superstition.

If you wish to come along, Visitors and New Members are always welcome. More details can be found on our website – www.astonanddistrictwi.org.uk
