Aston & District W.I. April 2019 Report

The first evening meeting of the year took place on Friday 5th April.
Our President, Jennifer Bourne, welcomed our visitors. She also introduced 'Mike' to fellow members. 'Mike – the Microphone' had been purchased after great discussion and investigation. At the end of the evening, there was unanimous agreement that 'he'd' proved to be a great asset and long may 'he' continue to be so!

She confirmed that tonight had been organised as a social evening to enable members to mingle and get to know one another better.

But first, the reports:-
Our Darts Team entered the Malbank Group Event last month and came joint second. Well done!

Irene Williamson read her report from the recent General Council Meeting at Northwich. She gave an overview of the last year, mentioning the new Website and asked for ideas for the 500th edition of 'Cheshire News' to be published in June. Finally she reported that Beth Tweddle was the speaker for that meeting whose talk was enjoyed by all.

This month the Luncheon Club are to meet at the Bhurtpore Inn on Tuesday 9th April, 12.00 for 12.30pm.
On Wednesday 10th April the Walking Group are meeting at Brown Moss car park at 10.15am followed by lunch, again at the Bhurtpore.

Our meeting room was resplendent with colourful crafts. Felting, Painting, Knitting, Pottery and Hat Making were all on display and demonstrated by various members. Others provided examples of their favourite dishes which everyone enjoyed tasting, with recipes freely available to take away.

After tea (and yet more cakes!), we were treated to a flower arranging class by Rosie Lomas. She kept up an entertaining commentary as she created different displays. Several ladies were lucky enough to win the arrangements to take home. In addition, in keeping with the theme for the evening, raffle prizes of Chocolate Easter Eggs were gratefully received.

The Decorated Egg Competition was won by Jennifer Bourne. Our evening continued with a short two part quiz, set by Dorothy Relton. She tested our knowledge of Easter followed by a few questions on the WI itself. But everyone took part leaving us with plenty to think about on our way home! All in all the whole evening was a great success appreciated by everyone.

Our next meeting will be on the evening of May 3rd at 7.15pm when our speaker will be Mr John Hooley with a talk on "Royal Trains and their Passengers." Appropriately, the competition will be a 'Royal Souvenir'.

If you wish to come along then do come and join us as Visitors and New Members are always welcome. Details can be found on our website – www.astonanddistrictwi.org.uk
