The Darts ladies are continuing their practices at the home of Rosie Lomas, and the next one
will be on Tuesday 11th November at 10.30am.
There will be no more Walks or Luncheon Clubs planned until the New Year.
Glenys then moved onto the main business of the afternoon our Annual General Meeting.
She had been our president for three years and at this meeting was finishing her time in
office.
Ann, our treasurer, gave a comprehensive account of our finances, she asked for the
adoption of the accounts and asked members to agree that our auditor be reappointed. This
was seconded by Jo Thomas and agreed by all.
Irene, our secretary, then gave her annual report reminding the members of what our
Institute had been doing during the past twelve months. We had welcomed various
speakers and hoped that they had covered something for everyone to enjoy. There had
been VE celebrations with an afternoon tea. Craft evening with four of our members
demonstrating their crafts for us to try. We even had a Beetle Drive. Many members
enjoyed our monthly Walks, Luncheon Club and Theatre trips. Members played bowls and
darts, our bowls ladies winning the Malbank Group Shield and being Runners up in the
Cheshire Federation Competition.
We had entered three stands in the co-operative section
at Nantwich Show and involved ourselves in the Cheshire campaigns, Great Big Green Week
by collecting a huge amount of blister packs for specialist recycling and the Dental Health
Matters Campaign by collecting dental items for the Nantwich Food Bank. We had joined in
CFWI events and the Malbank, Group meetings. All in all, a very busy year with something
for all the members to learn about or to just enjoy the fun and friendship our W.I. offers. We
now look forward to 2026.
Glenys then gave her Presidents address. She started by saying that when she became our
President she was terrified of the task in front of her – she quoted Chris McCausland who
said “ Do things that scare you because often scary things are definitely the most rewarding”
She recalled some of the ups and downs as her time as president, some big decisions had
been made but it was something she had really enjoyed and had found very rewarding. She
thanked all the committee for their hard work and commitment, she gave special thanks to
three of our committee who were retiring this year Dorothy Relton, Janet Monaghan and
Pamela Taylor and to all the members for their support.
She was thanked by Sue Thomas.
Heather, then presented Glenys with a gift from the members of a pair of silver forget- me not earrings. Glenys thanked the members and promised she would wear them at every
meeting!!
