Staff and pupils of Audlem St James' Primary School are celebrating after the school was awarded a Silver Artsmark Award.

It comes as a celebration for all the creative work that the children of the school take part in, from concerts and plays to dance and drama, as well as artwork.

The children from different classes have explored the lives of famous artists, ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to Henri Rousseau.

Year 5 pupils have just completed a study of the artist Giacometti and have used his techniques as inspiration for their sculptures.

Meanwhile Year 4 pupils have learned about the life and times of Vincent van Gogh and Year 1 children have been proudly showing off their artwork from their studies on plants.

Deputy headteacher Bruce Wilken said: "The judges of the Award were happy to upgrade the award to a silver, commenting that it was one of the strongest applications they had seen."
