The next ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) walk is this coming Saturday, 12th March. It's an 8.00am start from Audlem Car Park.

The walk for this month is a circular one based East and North of Macclesfield. It covers rolling hills, woods, streams and some very pleasant properties along the way.

The walk starts from Teggs Nose car park just off the A537 Macclesfield to Buxton main road, about 5 miles from Macclesfield town centre on the Buxton Old Road. The car park costs £1.60 all day with toilets.

From Teggs Nose Country Park car park, we will walk half a mile along the road before leaving to cross open fields to Lamaload Reservoir where herons and ravens can be seen. We then head virtually due north over farmland and two small roads to pick up the Gritstone Trail.

There is an option here to take in a view point at 407 metres, adding about half a mile to our walk.

From here, the rest of the day will be spent on the Gritstone trail as it winds its way back to Teggs Nose. Along the way we go via the outskirts of Bollington, up and over White Nancy at 320 meters.

There's fantastic views over Manchester and all of the Cheshire Plain along the saddle of Kerridge Ridge, then down to skirt Rainowthen, up Tower Hill and finally back over open farm land, crossing a couple of roads to arrive back at the car park.

The total distance is 12 miles in total with shorter options available. There are several ups and downs but nothing too lengthy on good marked paths. Well worth joining for the views alone, weather permitting!

Not too much climbing but fairly long so a Four Booter.

Please bring food and drink for the day as the pub on route is shut at the moment as usual. Also please have weatherproofs. The wind yesterday on the tops was icy.
