Audlem Rambling Society's first walk of the new year, led by Kate Down, is on Cannock Chase on Saturday 11th January.
Meet Audlem Car Park for departure at 9 am.
Following is her description:-
The walk starts at Marquis Drive Visitor Centre, where there are toilets. The postcode is WS12 4 PW. The car park charges £3.50 per day , the machine takes cash only, but you can purchase a ticket in the visitor centre.
The walk is about 8 miles and the terrain is easy with about 500 ft of ascent, taking in several interesting memorials and remains from the Great War, as well as the Commonwealth and German War Cemeteries.
There are no stiles and the tracks are mostly good, but there may be some muddy patches.
In view of the possibility of cold weather, I propose we meet at 9am in Audlem Carpark. Please remember that you need to pay and display if you leave your car there.
The walk should take around 3 hours so we have plenty of time to get back in daylight.
Any queries please contact audlemramblers@hotmail.co.uk
NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.
Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
