To everyone from the village who contributed to my appeal to raise money for The Christie Hospital by walking part of the Appalachian Trail, a big "Thank You."

We managed to raise over £8000 which was signficantly more than we orginally thought possible. The walk itself was much tougher both mentally and physically than we had orginally anticipated and whilst we are both experienced long distance walkers there is nothing in this country to prepare one for the rigours of the Appalachian Trail.

Our progress was not helped by the lack of water along the trail caused by three months of drought and the area still experiencing a heat wave with temperatures of 90°F – even at 4000ft!

It was very much an experience and an adventure and we met a signficant number of interesting walkers and locals on our journey. I have attached some photographs which do illustrate the area through which we walked.
