Beers supplied by the Wincle Beer Company at Dane Bridge near Macclesfield have been selected for APHAx (Audlem Public Hall Annexe) events.

It was beer from the Wincle brewery that featured at the APHAx Dinner/Dance in March this year, and the same company will be supplying the beer (probably Sir Philip, their "flagship" brew) for the APHAx Chilli Night in October.

Quite apart from the quality of the beer, there is another close connection between Audlem and the Wincle Brewery.

Giles Meadows, the Owner and Brewer at Wincle, is an Audlem "old boy" having grown up in the village and attended St James' Primary School and Brine Leas Secondary before going on, via a somewhat circuitous route, to become owner of the Ship Inn in Wincle. After six years as mine host, Giles needed a bigger challenge and having never brewed a pint in his life he decided to open a brewery. As you do.

The rest, as they say, is history.

There will be an opportunity to taste at least two of Giles' latest creations (beerwise) at the 7th Annual Audlem Beer Festival taking place at the Lord Combermere in Audlem from 26th to 29th August.

And, of course, at the APHAx Chilli Night on October 22nd.
