Combermere Wins Marketing Cheshire's 'Best Wedding Venue'


Marketing Cheshire hosted their 12th Annual Awards Ceremony at a celebratory evening held at Chester Racecourse on 24th November, hosted by former political Editor of Granada TV and BBC North West, Jim Hancock.

Combermere Abbey was announced 'Best Wedding Venue', one of 15 categories in the evening's line up of exemplary businesses, representing the crème of Cheshire's tourism.

The Awards, attended by nearly 300 tourism representatives, celebrate excellence and outstanding achievement by local businesses and individuals representing the great variety of businesses that contribution to Cheshire's visitor economy, which was worth £2.6 billion and welcomed over 47 million visitors in 2015.

Other local winners included Cheshire Ice Cream Farm, which was named 'Large Visitor Attraction of the Year', following a multi-million pound development this year. The Chester Grosvenor was named 'Hotel of the Year', while Tatton Park was recognised in the 'Best Tourism Marketing Project' category for Roald Dahl's Tremendous Adventures. Some winners will now go on to represent Cheshire at the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2017.

Katrina Michel, Chief Executive of Marketing Cheshire, said:

"Cheshire's tourism industry really is going from strength to strength and this has been one of our most competitive years yet, reflecting our unique products and the high quality of our tourism offer across the board."

Sarah Callander Beckett, owner of Combermere Abbey, commented:

"This has been another win for Combermere to be proud of...our fifth this year, in what has been an incredible time for us, marking the successful completion of the Abbey's recent restoration project. This Award recognised our continual improvement of our wedding venue business, which is now the main core of our commercial focus at the Abbey. It is wonderful for my team to have been credited once more for their hard work and passion.'

The new bridal suite at the venue is part of the recent £2m renovation and development project of the Abbey's North Wing, which will cosset the bridal couple for their first night in sumptuous and unique accommodation, including master bedroom, luxurious ensuite bathroom, Tudor Study and their own private Italianate knot garden, with views over the glacial mere and countryside beyond.
