Yesterday I drove to the Southport Theatre and Conference Centre to be present at the North West in Bloom Awards Ceremony. The Conference Centre is acknowledged as one of the very best and newest in the country with a magnificent hall which catered superbly for the nearly 500 gathered there for the presentation of the awards.

This involved considerable time of announcing the awards and presenting the medals and trophies. The North West element of Britain in Bloom, which is held under the auspices of the Royal Horticultural Society, is a huge area extending from its northern tip of the South Lakes, to the borders of the West Riding of Yorkshire, and from the coastal resorts to the most Southern edge – Audlem!

Masses of villages large and small were represented. Also, dignitaries from large and small towns and many other communities – right up to the largest towns such as Rochdale, Wigan etc. – were there, with considerable numbers of gold chains of office gracing many shoulders as the councils' officials arrived

I am pleased to report that we, here in Audlem, were awarded a "Silver Medal" in the large village category. A nice extra award for the village in what is truly a very "Awarding Year"

The exact words on our award are:

"North West in Bloom 2010 is proud to present Audlem District Amenities Society with a Silver Award in the Best Large Village Category".
