Last game of the month. I wake early as is my want even though late to my bed after Pantomime final night Over the past week I have been helping the panto by running the bar along with John Cooke – my fellow Friend Of Donna Louise Children's Hospice of Audlem,. Busy nights as the 5a's thespians present their Annual Panto . This wonderful bunch pf dedicated folks – ranging in age from around 6 years to 70+ – have been so doing since 1995.
Working their socks off with rehearsals starting way back in September. Yet another jewel in the crown of Audlem's community heart. This year's show- Traesure Island , written by that talented writer, Colin Cliffe . Yes- Traesure for the script was littered with a maze of deliberate errors, obvious as the show went on.
Now to the village after de-freezing the car – covered in a sheet of frozen rain which, I must confess, I did not expect. Pitch a tad firm but temperature increasing fast. Referee Jem Cornes arrives and agrees pitch OK to play. Good, fair Referee who allows the game to flow. We are given little choice of players as just 12 turn out and that includes 2 signings on this day.
Chinese New Year – the year of the Rooster, and I wonder who will be crowing the most at the final whistle. We play Nantwich Young Farmers. Very good team and with very god management . Based at Wrenbury.
Sharp at 1100 and a busy car park. David Robertson and family here to give us support.
We are giving us a good as we get as the game ebbs and flows end to end . Joe Benson fouls a player with a tough tackle . Free kick but no gain.
Groundhog day once more as we go behind .
Few raindrops on my pad as the play goes on
A fine header from a corner kick.. Sad it was not us scoring
Rain gone and some watery sun to cheer the scene . Pitch cutting up now as the kit gets ever muckier. A task for Olive later to launder it all – in relays!
Kev Mort turns up so we now have 13 players
So, so simple header.
Half time
Buy coffees from Ja's Café to warm our cockles. Kev Mort on .
Handbag's between Kev Rogers and their number 10 but handled so sensibly by the Ref.
Chill wind is back.
A so so soft stupid goal
The man to man passing of NYF so superior to our play .
So , so easy. No more words . No more . We again lose.
All invited back to the Lord Combermere for the best chips hereabouts . A good atmosphere between us. Their top scorer had put away 4
Next game away at Sandbach versus Cricketers F C on 5th of Feb.
