Well here we go again.

The new season about to kick off so the Village Football team has a tour of friendlies arranged, emulating the stars of the Premier League. Sadly we cannot make it to China or the USA so we have to content ourselves with Cheshire.

Our first sally into the new season was versus Faddiley and we were beaten 6-1. A good first half but poor "colander" like second. Refereeing was shared by us in the 1st half and by our opponents in the 2nd! Then we faced Haslington in a mid week fixture and drew 2-2.

Yesterday we played Market Tavern of Crewe at a pitch I never knew existed. Behind the Peacock pub in Nantwich. A pitch that was ten times better than our playing field although it needed mowing and had no white lines -- just burnt in over the years by the lime. Changing was on the grass. No access to any rooms.

Audlem FC v Market Tavern

AFC Team of 12 players turned out including 'our two veterans. Kev Mort and Kev Walters -- both of whom will never see 40 again.

11.05 Kick-off with a good league referee this time. We had to bring our own nets and corner flags as none here available.
Sun out – which is nice on my follicly challenged pate. Good fast pace as we set out our game plan. Brad Jones chasing in- shoots. first real chance of the game. Tipped away by MT's goalie.

11.11 and we given a penalty. Up steps our player manager but his drive is saved. Not a good portent! Then at the other end he saves what looked like a certain goal with a goal line clearance.

11.16. 2nd corner of the game for us. No gain. Then another penalty is awarded to us. This time Joe Benson steps up. Shoots and scores. Joe is having a good game overall..1-0 .

11.23. MT get a corner and blow me down, they score 1-1.

11.30. Joe races up field, avoiding tackle after tackle and scores. A very determined run well rewarded. 2-1.

11.42 A crowded attack on their goal and Chris Evans pokes it in. 3-1. A bit of heat and Referee has a word with our Connor McGowan to cool it.

HALF TIME Team talk is intensive. Lots of water drunk. And deep heat applied. Chris has to leave for personal reasons and Andrew Betterley arrives for this second half.

11.55 and SECOND HALF We are allowed roll on subs in these games so back and forth goes Kev Walters. We lose a ball into the "jungle" on the far side. £20 down the pan! Wind getting up a bit and cooler now. Great run upfield by Adam Myers but his shot just flies over the bar. Good play by Brad Jones -- very determined young player with no fear '. Our age range is 18 to 43! Very bad foul on Connor and he is totally crocked as his ankle swells up like a balloon. Off to the side lines with two men virtually carrying him off.

12.32 A super pass between Beko and Kev R and Kev scores 4-1. Two strong attacks by MT as time ticks away -- beautifully saved Connor Baxter, our goalie. Very impressed with new signing Ross Henderson, newly arrived at Woore

FULL TIME A good win under our belts. Connor taken off to hospital by his mate. We await news as to his condition but will be out for awhile. Next game is away to Young Farmers at Wrenbury

Our signed up players for this season are.Connor Baxter, Kev Mort, Kev Rogers, Kev Walters, Connor McGowan, Trevor McDowell, Brad Jones, Tom Bebbington, James Bebbington, Ross Henderson, Adam Myers, Kyle Willis, Chris Evans, Iain Chalker, Joe Benson, Andrew Betterley, Dag Sirle, Sonny Hoyland, Pete Jones, Sam O'Hara, Dale Bradbury, Marcus Bell, Ashley Scott
