October 20th v Faddiley

As I set myself to have the get and go and to drive off the Faddiley to play a cup tie there -- I muse on a little piece of wonder in this world. Very little but worthy of some note. My niece Willow and her partner Doug plus four other colleagues from Kings College London set off to travel for the first time to the Far East, starting in Singapore, and then on to travel the length and breadth of Vietnam.
Great adventure was had by all, but my reason for telling the tale is that, 8 days after being posted in Saigon, a little post card arrived in my post box. Bearing stamps to the value of 19,000 Dong, this piece of communication came -- all the way across the world -- and arrived in pristine condition. Quite something when you stop and wonder!
(a Dong is worth .000033 of a pound)

Enough of my rambling.

To the game

Our opponents are Faddiley – a strong team who won this cup last season, at Faddiley near to the Thatch Restaurant, with a pitch that has a very defined slope to the south and is a good advantage to the team playing to that goal .
Manager Kev Mort has assembled a good squad of players -- so again I have a hope of success.
Referee is Des Evans, Chief Referee for the CRSL League.
Coin tossed and we play down the slope to the south of the pitch.

10.55 Kick off early and away we all thunder, us playing in our blue/white striped kit. Opponents all in yellow
Normal fast and furious start as each side gets going and blood pumping thorough the 22 sets of veins on the field of play. Rain starts, which I did not expect, so umbrella up and I attempt to keep my clip board dry .

11.00 Two rapid corners for Faddiley but nothing gained.

1102 Great cross by Mark Parker but sadly no one there to meet it. We are playing very well and Ross Henderson heads in a beautiful ball

11.07 Great shot by Andrew Betterley (Beco) is saved well by their goalie . Mark Parker sends fine pass to Danny Mahoney but his shot collected by the goalie. Great stuff by AFC.

11.12 Corner to FFC. How I hate set pieces that so often are our undoing.
Seb Barrow -- one of our newer signings, fires in a good ball but just over the bar .

11.20 Cross by Danny M is met by Beco, but his headed ball saved.
We are so on top at present and playing as a confident team . 60/40 for us !
Danny sending in some wonderful balls into their box.
THEN

11.28 0-1 Faddiley score from a corner . Connor Baxter our goal keeper has no chance to stop it! Set piece again!
Rain has eased off.

11.32 0-2 Then, wham, bam, slam. They score again.
And we are so on top of the play. Sad . So sad.
Their number 7 is heard saying " Audlem will now crumble like old cheese"
I think not.
Ref then books one of their players. First booking of the match.

11.37 Free kick to us -- taken by Danny but his shot tipped over the bar.
Ref books Tom Smart -- another of our recent signings . That will cost him a £10 fine by the League

11.47 HALF TIME
Second Half. Away we go
Scramble in our goal mouth but we clear the danger. Faddiley now pressing hard as they seek to bury us.

11.56 1-2 Superb move upfield by Beco -- he is everywhere in the action!-
And his cross met by Seb Barrow- who feeds Lewis Williams- and he scores!
So much for crumbling cheese. Mark Parker comes off and Will Cork enters the fray. Mark has done very well in his play!
FFC play their first of many subs.
AFC have their heads held high -- best performance of the season so far.
More subs by FFC.

12.20 Danny comes off -and by golly he has played his heart out. So full of running . Sam Mason on.

11.25 Out comes a warm sun to light the pitch. Very welcome .

11.28 Ref awards free kick to FFC . Thank fully no gain.

Game over. And opponents say we were the better side on the day. Just lucky goals for them denied us a result. And that is true for we played so well throughout the game . Heads held high.
Man of the march awarded to Tom Smart -- well deserved .

Next game is here on the 27th -- Sunday -- in Audlem versus Talbot of Nantwich. Do come to cheer us on
