First reported on chatbox in March and then regularly since – there follows the result of a reader's enquiry

After contacting Shropshire Highways on 20th August I received this email reply, despite requesting a call back, after my repeat call yesterday 4th September.

"I have been asked by Shropshire Council to respond to your query regarding the temporary traffic signals on the A529 near Adderley.
"The existing temporary traffic signals are necessary as there is a 1.5m to 2.0m drop immediately adjacent to the northbound lane which was caused by lorry losing control and taking out the hedge/boundary fence.
"Before the lane can be re-opened, the boundary needs to restored and a scheme is currently being drawn up, however, this involves ground investigations and the design of an embankment on third party land which needs to be negotiated with the landowner. Unfortunately this can be a lengthy process so we don't have a timescale for the signals to be removed as yet.
"We appreciate this can be frustrating but road users safety is the priority.
"I hope this helps to resolve your query
"Best Regards
"Dave Davies Principal Engineer"

i have pointed out that there was a fence there before and that the drop has always been there. I also suggested that they just replace the fence and that the landowner was unaware of being approached by their august body. There is no damage to the highway or it's substrate.

The timescale they have posted online for removal of the lights is 30th September BTW
