ADCA (Audlem and District community Action) urgently needs additional volunteer drivers due to the continued expansion of our services.

There are two different requirements

Day Club and Coffee Club

On Tuesday Day Club and Friday Coffee Club need transport for the regular members to be able to attend. The Day Club is held at Hankelow Methodist Chapel and at the Coffee Club at the Lord Combermere in Audlem.

For the Day Club, the task is to pick up individual members from their own homes and take them to Hankelow at around 10.00 am and to collect them at around 3.30pm to return home. These are isolated elderly people who have no realistic transport alternative, and who very often regard their visit to the Day Club as the highlight of their week.

Volunteers work on rota and do about one session per month. For the expanding Coffee Club, we do need extra help each Friday if possible to get people to the Club for 10am ish and return home at midday.

Medical transport

ADCA took on the task from ADAS in the Spring of 2014 of providing transport to doctors and hospitals for people unable to get there by normal means, and needing more assistance than a taxi service can reasonably provide. ADCA organises these trips on a pre-arranged basis (i.e. this is not an instant emergency service) and it can involve trips to the GP surgery or to Leighton Hospital or even medical facilities further afield.

All drivers are reimbursed for fuel costs at the standard rate of 45p per mile. The commitment can be as little or as much as you can feel comfortable with – the aim is to have a pool of drivers each doing perhaps one trip each fortnight or every three to four weeks.

Volunteer drivers find the activity rewarding work, very often providing a vital lifeline for our more elderly and less mobile residents. Due to the expanding needs for ADCA's services, we are always looking for more drivers in addition to the drivers we currently have.

Drivers will be given the necessary induction training and advice, and it will be necessary for ADCA to have a DBS check done on their behalf as the service deals with some very vulnerable older people.
