An Audlem action group looks set to get a £1,500 grant towards the cost of a metal shed.

Audlem & District Community Action, which runs the Thornton House Day and Coffee Clubs, needs £2,719 to buy a new shed to store chairs.

They asked Cheshire East Council for £2,119 to complete the purchase but the council's Strategic Communities Committee is being recommended to give £1,500 towards the project.

A report says: "They are making a small contribution themselves and have in kind contributions but they have not applied elsewhere. It is recommended that they are awarded £1,500."

The handouts are the third round of grants distributed by Cheshire East for 2013/14 and councillors are asked to approve grants totalling £30,934.

Other nearby organisation in line for handouts are Wrenbury Village Hall Trust with £3,000 towards the cost of a £56,000 village hall makeover; £300 to help Crewe Alexandra Ladies set up a new football team for under 18s and £250 towards advertising and trophies for the Nantwich Town Crier Competition to be held early next year.

The report said: "The Council recognises the valuable input that the Voluntary and Community Sector brings to the quality of life in the community."
