This year ADAS will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Society's foundation in 1969.
ADAS was originally formed as a pressure group to oppose a Cheshire County Council plan to build a by-pass around Audlem. This 'by-pass' would, in fact, have resulted in the demolition of many houses in the Village, including the row of cottages in Stafford St, and would have destroyed the unique character of Audlem.
The original ADAS Committee was chaired by George Dow who lived at 'Wyverns', opposite the Guide and Scout Hall, and Committee members included Derek McKelvey, Dr Michael Thornton, Roger Moseley, and Rev Gould.
In fact the by-pass was never built, probably due to lack of finance, but ADAS has continued with it's aims of promoting awareness of the unique character of the Village and providing amenities which can be enjoyed by all residents.
These now include festive events such as Christmas decorations, carol singing and the Big Switch On as well as the much admired floral decorations throughout the year. Other events include the very successful Open Gardens days and concerts in the Church.
This year, as it is our Golden Anniversary, the summer displays will have a 'gold' theme. As Audlem was awarded the Gold award at the Britain in Bloom ceremony last September we hope to repeat this again this year. As ever thanks are due to the many volunteers who help with planting and watering throughout the year.
ADAS events this year include:
