ADAS AGM

The 49th ADAS AGM was held on Thursday 7th March in the Guide and Scout Hall.In spite of the wet and windy weather a good number of ADAS members attended.After apologies were read out last year's minutes were approved and signed.

The Chairman, Neil Goodyear, welcomed everyone and then explained that the AGM date had been changed from October to March to avoid the autumn period when the Committee were busy with preparations for Christmas in the Village

He then paid tribute to Derek Mckelvey, a founder member of ADAS when it was formed in 1969.At this point Judy Evans, Derek's daughter, presented a cheque to the Chairman from donations received in memory of her father who had been a driving force on the ADAS Committee in its early years. This was much appreciated.

He then described the successful events organised during the previous eighteen months These included: a Choral concert in the Church, the Big Switch On and Carol singing, an Open Gardens event and two fundraising quiz nights at the Lord Combermere.

Projects during this period included the replacement of flower tubs and installation of water butts to save water during summer months.

A new ADAS website has been developed to give up to date details of upcoming events

The summer planting had been very successful and everyone was delighted that Audlem had been awarded Gold by the North West Britain in Bloom Committee. He thanked all volunteers who had helped achieve this success

He then outlined future projects which will include: the installation of benches at the entrance to the Car Park and by the Co-op as well as ongoing replacement of tubs throughout the Village, the improvement of flower beds in front of the Charity Shop and the Methodist Chapel and refurbishment of the flower beds along the canal.

As usual faulty Christmas tree lights will be replaced as required and new lights installed on trees in the Village.

The recent successful 'tidy up' sessions will be continued on a regular basis.

The Chairman stressed the importance of Members contributions in financing these projects and also the efforts by volunteers who help with the work He mentioned that as ADAS is celebrating its Golden Anniversary this year there will be extra events taking place.

After the Treasurer's report had been read the Presentation of awards took place

Several award winners could not be present but had previously been presented with their awards. Megan Goode had received the Senior Citizen award for her success in reopening a Post Office in the Village

The Young Citizen award had been presented to Megan Brooks for her energy and enthusiasm supporting the Beavers and Cubs The 'Best Kept' commercial award had been given to Brambles Cookshop. Sally and Michael Cookson of Beech Tree House were present to receive the 'Best Kept' garden award.

After the appointment of the auditor the Chairman proposed several amendments to the ADAS Constitution. The aim of these being to reflect changes in communications with members in view of modern technology. These were discussed and approved.

The next agenda item was the appointment of officers but at this point Neil Goodyear presented Judy Tarrant with a beautiful bouquet for all her support over the previous nine years as a Committee member.

The Committee was appointed with Neil Goodyear continuing as Chair

The evening closed with drinks and nibbles
