On the Sixth Day of Christmas my true love said to me "Spiced Apple Cake (or Dessert)"

Ingredients
9 inch round or equivalent oblong tin – Pre-heated oven at 200 deg. C
250g / 9 oz Self-raising flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
175g / 6 oz butter, cubed
115g / 4 oz caster sugar
I egg
About 3 sliced cooking apples
1 tblspn sugar – caster or soft brown
Method
Place flour, cinnamon and butter in mixing bowl
Rub in or use electric mixer until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs
Add the sugar and mix again
Place 115g / 4 oz of the mixture aside in a bowl
To the remaining mixture, add the beaten egg
Mix until a dough is formed
Roll out to fit tin with about 2 cm up the sides
Arrange the apple slices in the tin, sprinkle the tablespoon of sugar over the apples
Spread the 115g / 4 oz of the mixture evenly over the apples
Bake in the oven for about 30 mins, until golden brown and the apples are soft.
When cooked, place tin on a wire rack to cool.
When cold, cut into slices or squares.
Serve as cake, or dessert with custard, cream or ice cream
