Around and about the damsons are just ripening and wild hedgerow blackberries are there for the taking. Early apples are ready and so are the first pears. If they fall off the tree in your hand or with a slight twist they are ready. They are easily bruised so careful handling will prolong their keeping.

This week we have a comprehensive selection of home made jam and preserves, no additives, just fruit, sugar and sometimes water. Last week the tayberry preserve was the most sought after, followed by raspberry and crabapple.
