The weekly acoustic music sessions on Monday nights in the Shroppie Fly continue to flourish. This week there were around 25 musicians and singers, with a huge assortment of instruments. Fiddle, concertina, accordian, whistle, hurdy-gurdy, bohdran, guitar, dulcimer, mandolin, melodian, mouth-organ, kazoo, and various "shaky-rattly" things were all in action.
As usual, there was also an enthusiastic audience who were lent "shaky-rattlies" so they could join in too! There was even an impromptu dance session! It really is amazing that a small village can sustain such a musical gathering, at a time when many folk clubs in towns have shut down. And it's now been going on for over 10 years!
There was also a bonus for the Carnival on Monday night, as the assembled gathering put their hands in their pockets and were "persuaded" to buy a considerable number of raffle tickets!
However, there will be an interruption to normal service next Monday, for the Festival weekend. For one week only, the music session will be in The Bridge, and start at 3.00pm, probably going on until 5.30pm. There are rumours that it may then move onto the Shroppie Fly for another "unofficial" hour...
So come along next Monday afternoon and join in or just listen: you will be amazed at the variety of music, instruments and talent on offer.
