This week's History Short (number 24) breaks new ground. It's in two instalments and looks at life and history in a village in eastern France. The village is smaller than Audlem but there are many similarities with the economic and social changes that have affected rural Britain over the past 40 years.

Thanks to Linda Simard for contributing the piece. Her husband, Christian, and I first met as 12 year olds taking part in the Crewe and Nantwich schools' exchange with Mâcon. Linda has lived in France for over 40 years, but originally is from North Yorkshire. They're frequent visitors to Audlem and have even attended an ADHS meeting!
