A RAMBLER’S AMBLES & HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE
Think of “retired folk”, such as the business and professional men and women who make up Audlem Probus Club, and you might be forgiven for thinking they’re just people who “ramble” on and on at their fortnightly meetings.
Perhaps some of us do! But this week sees a visitor whose talks are truly focused!
Josephine Gosling and her husband have been ramblers of the walking kind for more than 40 years, and on Thursday (Oct 23rd) she’ll tell us about fascinating buildings discovered during their travels.
As Josephine says: “My talk, which I call ‘Ambles Past Architecture’, is one of a series of illustrated, themed talks that I give under the umbrella title of ‘Amazing Walks’. I tell stories that I have found about the places we have visited, a descriptive and information talk of mainly British architecture from pre-history to modern times.”
Josephine is well placed to open our eyes to the features of varied architectural styles and periods, having been an avid country walking enthusiast for more than 40 years. She and her husband maintain that enthusiasm even in retirement. She adds: “Since I retired from primary school teaching in 2012, we try to go twice a week on a proper walk. We average about five miles now we’re older but still tot up more than 1,000 miles a year when combined with our daily local walks.”
The featured architecture Josephine addresses include Durham Cathedral, and Buxton Crescent.
Visitors and guests are welcome to join us from 10am, Thurs Oct 23rd, at Audlem Public Hall.
