Today, Tuesday 28th October, is the 70th anniversary of the tragic crash of an RAF Wellington X Bomber in a field at Prince Hill, Bridgemere.

Six brave young service men tragically lost their lives and miraculously, there was one survivor, Sgt. Douglas Stewart Hollis Wilson, who was the only one able to bail out and parachute to safety before the plane broke up and hit the ground.

The plane came down on a training exercise during bad weather.

The plane was based at RAF Chipping Warden, Oxfordshire.

On Sunday a service was held at the memorial in the nearby lay by on the A51, and, as ever many wonderful tributes were left there to honour the lost flyers who helped defend us from tyrany.
