Combermere Abbey Estate is to support an important local Cheshire charity on the afternoon of Wednesday September 24th. They will donate funds to St Luke's Cheshire Hospice, a remarkable local charity supporting patients and their families in the Mid and South Cheshire regions.

Sarah Callander Beckett, Owner of Combermere Abbey says: "We all know someone who has benefitted from the superb care offered by the hospice, and every contribution however large or small counts to keeping the hospice open and available to all those in need – we are very pleased to continue to support them and the work they do".

St Luke's

Jane Thompson, Director of St Luke's Cheshire Hospice added: "We're delighted to be chosen as the charity for Combermere Abbey's Garden Open afternoon.   We can't think of a nicer way for people to help us raise the £7,500 we need each day, than a stroll around their beautiful grounds.

"Our hospice cares for people during their journey with life threatening illness.  The hospice is able to care for our community because that same community supports our fundraising efforts in so many ways."

Visitors will enjoy the rare opportunity to explore approximately 10 acres of the grounds, with the beautiful Victorian Walled Gardens of the C12th Combermere Abbey, and access to The Pleasure Garden and The Garden Wood, leading down to the lake and its spectacular views.

Gardeners

The Abbey's team of gardeners will be on hand to answer any garden queries and share their tips and anecdotes at this delightful and informal event. A history and map of the gardens including plants list will be available.

The magnificently restored Glasshouse, designed by Messenger in 1907, sits within the Abbey's fruit tree maze. Unique in the world, it is an espaliered labyrinth of redcurrants, gooseberries and over 25 varieties of apple and pear trees and will provide a wonderful place to enjoy the light refreshments on offer, whilst taking in the sights and sounds of the gardens.

Visitors will be able to purchase the autumn harvest fruit from the Maze and there will be a Plant & Produce Stall too, with lovely home-grown plants, home-made fresh fruit juices and preserves, as well as books about the Estate.

Admission

Gates will open at 1.00pm and the event will close at 5.00pm. Dogs and picnics are not permitted in the Gardens.

Admission costs is £5. Parking is free of charge.

Combermere Abbey is privately owned and still a family home. However, it is well known for its excellent award winning holiday cottages and as a wedding and events venue. It is located five miles west of Audlem on the junction of the A525 and the A530.
