As part of the exhibition – magnificently presented in the Public Hall by ASET and the 5 A's, I loaned my war time butchers bicycle. A real bone shaker, with rod brakes and a saddle designed to inflict the most damage possible to the rider. A bicycle that had not been ridden for many, many years.
As I arrived today to load the cycle into my trailer , I jokingly said to Olive Stretch that she should have a go on it in the car park. Imagine all our surprise when Geoff Stretch jumped on the thing and said -"see you in Buerton".
And. By golly he did just that . Rode all the way uphill on it to my house. A bike with no gears. Poor brakes. And that saddle. I met him there and he was not breathless. Superb effort as he had not ridden a bike for over 40 years,
