Without Williams offering UPS parcel collection, the Terracycle scheme in the village would be harder to run too.
The village amenities are more than that, it's a community.
The question (for me) remains – what is the name of the business that Sue Danym urges us to support? Anyone?
Wow I never knew Judy was the owner of Williams (the oldest shop in Audlem) ether. Always love that shop when I'm after an expensive gift for someone last minute. Coop and boots is great for the essentials in life though
For players old and new – walking netball sessions are suspended at the moment. We aim to restart the sessions on Wednesday 19th April. New members are welcome.
While out walking today (Sunday) we found a debit card on the public footpath across the field that leads onto Hankelow Mill Lane.. It is a Lloyds Bank debit card. I will take to Judys newsagents tomorrow morning.
Janet – speaking not just for ourselves, but all Audlem businesses -we are always happy to welcome you to our store. Kind Regards, Judy xxx (Williams of Audlem)
Sorry Judy, I had no idea you were owner of Williams(oldest shop in audlem)!
As the owner of one of the oldest businesses in Audlem (Wiliams of Audlem) I am delighted to have the opportunity to reply to the claim that all but two businesses in Audlem are a "costly luxury" !! Some people (not all) have short memories that the local butcher went above & beyond during COVID to keep this village supplied with fresh produce (not just meat) when many Coop shelves were empty. Some shops (including our own) provide postal and parcel services. At Williams' we also provide basic household goods (often cheaper than the Coop) besides stationery essentials, and coal & sticks etc. Kitchen utensils & gadgets are to be found at the cook shop. A canal shop selling haberdashery. All the gift related shops in the village sell a wide range of products to meet EVERY budget. and if you didn't think flowers for your partner/ mother / Nan were essential – then think again !! Then there's the many service shops, dry cleaning, hairdressers, cafes, eateries, etc. that you might find more convenient when you stop driving, and/ or our scant bus services dwindle ever further.
Not to mention that many of us are also local employers, charity fund raisers, and offer endless personal, social & community support to a great many. #NOTJUSTACOSTLYLUXURY
Haven't you realised David that it's not the council's policy TO DO THE JOB PROPERLY, their policy is to bodge it as cheaply as they can and then repeat the same repair and over again as and when it needs it, whilst all the time bleating that they haven't got sufficient funds. Between the whole lot of them, they couldn't fill a Pot Noodle, never mind a Pot Hole.
Surely "Sue Danym" is a pseudonym?
April 1st is still a fortnight away!
Sue Danym – what is your new business in Audlem? If people know the name it may help to support it.
I am pleased to report that my large pothole at the end of the drive was repaired several weeks ago .It is holding well and shows no sign of breaking up. I suspect that the council sent the "A" team for that one .Sorry to learn that other repairs have ben so inferior.
Chris
John, I think you are being unfair because as I read it the article you refer to relates to those who criticise the ones in the village who get on and do things. It was certainly not criticising those who either due to lack of time or inclination do not volunteer.
I'm surprised, Editor, that you publish a post that plainly is aimed at one individual.
Considering there's a cost of living crisis please forgive the village of everyone's not piling in to buy luxury gifts or items. I'm not sure which new business you now own but other than the coop and boots every other shop is a costly luxury
Being a new business in Audlem, recently, maybe due to the impact of poor weather. We have seen quite a decline in foot fall from local residents.
Of the customers we have welcomed today only 1 ( out of 35) was from the village
As the title states – " use it or lose it" local and small independent businesses need your support
It appears to me that a good job is if the work last long enough for the team to leave the site before the first lorry or tractor pulls the repair straight out.
Congraulations Cheshire East Highways (OR NOT) for deploying 5/6 men, 4 vehicles/Road Closure to fill in various potholes in Paddock Lane/Wood Orchard Lane on Monday 13th March, which have now reverted back to their original pothole state. Call this a repair? DO THE JOB PROPERLY PLEASE.
Having received Cheshire East Council Tax Bill 2023/24 I was shocked to find that Audlem Parish Councils charge has increased by a whopping 130.3 % from last year!!!
Does anyone know the reason for this increase??? Surely Audlem Parish Council should be notifying all Audlem residents as to the reasons why they have applied a huge increase??
I got very excited on Monday to see that Paddock Lane was closed for the massively overdue pothole repairs. I was excited because, in the previous 4 or 5 attempts to fill in these ever re-curing ever spreading potholes, I had never seen a road closure, so I assumed that this time the job was going to be done properly, once and for all, hurrah. However, the following day when I witnessed the work that had been completed I was gobsmacked, I have to say that a blind chimp with 2 buckets of play-dough could have done better, it is an absolute disgrace, is this the level of service that we pay our ever-increasing council tax for??? It wouldn't surprise me if leaving 50% of the potholes untouched is maybe a new brilliant council initiative to save money, what a bunch of incompetent plonkers they really are.
Coole Lane is to reopen at midnight on 31/3 according to Cheshire East today.
The United Kingdom last had compulsory national identity cards during World War II when they were introduced for security purposes. Wartime ID cards were finally withdrawn by the Churchill government in 1952 because of the tension they created between the police and innocent citizens.
We never seem to learn from history.
Unfortunately, Nick Smith, I think it's highly unlikely that everyone will abstain from voting as a protest against the new requirement to present a form of photo id when voting in person.
I'd respectfully suggest that instead people should bear this needless legislation in mind when deciding how to vote.
It is perhaps telling that whilst an Older Person's Bus Pass and Oyster 60+ card (both funded by UK government) are deemed legitimate photo id a students' photo id and an 18+ student Oyster photo card are not.
I agree 100% with the comments. As a protest I am not voting. If everyone did the same I think the government would consider scrapping this scheme and implement online voting, this is 2023.
This photo iD rubbish is just Big Brother again. Taken from the Electoral Commision website – 595 cases of alleged electoral fraud were investigated by the police. Of these, four led to a conviction and two individuals were given a police caution.
These figures are across the UK. 595 across how many millions for 2019. Just 4 led to a conviction.
Does anyone know the current approximate depth of the ford crossing at Swanbach. Thinking of a trip to Market Drayton.
