Wes Lechley on Long awaited meeting

11th June 2023 @ 4:29pm

Can anyone help me understand what this term "woke" means as well as what the "woke agenda" is? It all sounds rather sinister.

Adriana Roscoe on Theft of flowers

Billy Gibbons on flooding on Green Lane

11th June 2023 @ 8:20am

Hello Michelle; When you say 'Green Lane' regarding flooding, do you mean actually on Green Lane or at the Bridge at Swanbach? If it's the former; I have some photographs of the road and on my property during the flooding that might (only 'might' though) help your cause. Either way, good luck with it all...I hope it gets sorted. ;-)

Michelle Taylor on flooding on Green Lane

10th June 2023 @ 8:58pm

the council tells me that I should not be trying to prevent an accident. they should be doing that. never seen that yet. i did call them and within an hour we had a van arrive to manage the traffic but when i havent raised it there was no-one to organise the traffic. i have sent to audlem online the letter i received. i am guessing the rest of the community are not happy with the very weak response?

Jane Kavanagh on Help with pond

10th June 2023 @ 3:56pm

We have a 'wildlife pond' which has become choked with plants and would love to restore some clear water. Not massive but would love to enjoy watching insects on the water again and birds being able to drink/bathe. Newts are present and protected. Hope to hear from somebody local who can sort this out for us. Thank you.

Ann Mason on Theft of flowers

Hi I'd like to report of a theft of flowers from my husbands plot.

Sarah Pendlebury on Long awaited meeting

10th June 2023 @ 1:02pm

At long last after much planning and organising we have a meeting planned for Audlem for coal and fracking. With just stop oil and other woke organisations more and more disrupting the lives of normal hard working people we have got together with a few interested locals to arrange our first meeting to be held at the Bridge on the 24th of this month. This is for like minded people to come together and decide a course of action to show that families and normal hard working people with electric bills to pay can have a voice against the woke agenda more and more getting the time in the news please come along if you have had enough of this ridiculous net zero no fossil fuel stupidity that the guardian would have us believe the majority of people want come stand and have a voice before we are to late

Tony pond on Piccola Italian

10th June 2023 @ 12:58pm

We had the great pleasure of yet again enjoying the takeaway pizza from Piccola Italian. Don't look anywhere else if you want a takeaway treat especially pizza it is by some way the best takeaway for miles top produce not just cheap profit oriented rubbish like from a lot of takeaways truly a gem in Audlems crown

Got plenty of grazing available for a period of time for sheep – plenty of trees for shelter – it is post and rail fencing but can't imagine they would go anywhere with all the grass plus road is dead end

For Maps side by side...starting with the Tithe Map from 1841, then the first ordnance survey map 1875 to present day.
The tithe maps also show who owned and occupied a plot back then!

Many thanks to editor and Geoff for info about access to Leighton Hospital. I successfully used the A530 today, as the blockage is after the A&E turn.

For those interested in old maps, here is a great website where you can select what age map you would like to see and a side by side comparison. There use to be a park near by.

Could Roy Plume's "hole" be the top of a disused well?

Stuart Bruce on Airport transfer service

7th June 2023 @ 8:09am

I also recommend Haightons – they were recommended to us by friends who use them regularly. I've only used them once for a return trip to Whitchurch. Reliable, friendly, clean & smart, reasonably priced – what's not to like?

Joanna Allman on Airport transfer service

As recommended to me, and subsequently used to Manchester airport; Haighton's Taxis – 01270 624574 or 07595 908879. They're based in Nantwich.

Judy Evans on The flower of Gloster

6th June 2023 @ 11:32am

Thanks Darren – though I had of heard of it – I had never seen it. Quite a fascinating watch, and strange what passed as entertaining TV in those days ! Lovely to see the Shroppie Fly, Audlem Wharf and Audlem Mill in their 1960's – pre-developed state. The milk boy was fictitious of course. There was also a slightly out of sequence shot of the old railway line in the distance, taken as they moved along the pound below the bottom lock – and later nice shots across the Turnpike fields. Though obviously the still shot of the flight of "Audlem Locks" was inaccurate – I'm sure someone on here will know what flight that actually was though ?

John brooksbank on Airport transfer service

6th June 2023 @ 9:25am

Can anyone recommend a taxi/transfer service with a minibus to and from Manchester Airport please?

Christina Lawson on Getting to Leighton Hospital

Please can anyone tell me which way to drive to Leighton at the moment. The Cheshire East website is totally confusing.
